In this case, there is no common matrimonial property; there are only two separate sets of individual assets. Each of the spouses manages and uses their own assets and they are therefore liable for their own debts. Each of them has disposal over their own income. Each spouse makes an appropriate contribution towards the matrimonial expenses. Spouses can establish separation of matrimonial property by means of a marital agreement.
